Have you ever considered removing meat from your diet entirely? Most people would never do that, as meat, especially red meats, makes up a large portion of their diet. There are many benefits which arise from a vegetarian diet. First, it increase the amount of fiber you bring in to your body, by more than 2-3 times as what you consume before going vegetarian. This prevents your likelihood of getting intestinal cancer. Furthermore, people who take up a vegetarian diet, is likely to have a much lower cholesterol level as compared to someone who takes meat, especially red meats such as beef and mutton. On top of that, your blood glucose level would not be above average, therefore reducing your chances of having heart attacks or strokes. That is why, people who have history of such diseases, or a family history of such problems, are strongly encouraged to take up a vegetarian diet, so as to lower down the probability of such problems to occur in them.
There is a misconception in many people that a vegetarian diet would cause them to have fewer intakes of proteins, which is also important for our body in a well-balanced diet. This is not true, as a vegetarian diet includes beans such as bean curd and tofu in it too. Such food with high soya beans contents, is actually high in protein content. Therefore, a vegetarian comprises of all the vitamins that our body need.
In the food preparation process, we can always choose to substitute meat with other alternatives. Taking meatballs as an example, we can switch it with mushroom balls, where the food would still taste equally tasty, but of different nutritional content. Vegetarian food can also be delicious too, it is just a matter of how you prepared it.
So, the next time you go shopping for groceries for your family, pick up more vegetables and fruits, and avoid the meat section.
