With all the talk of “going green,” and preserving the environment, the need for removing toxins from the home becomes more and more important for our daily lives and wellness. Today, we are becoming very conscious of creating self wellness, and maintaining a proper balance between body and spirit.
Many of us are turning to a re-evaluation of the foods we consume. We are reading labels, watching the carbs, cutting back on the sugars and cholesterol. The focus is on a more natural diet, and steering away from the chemical additives. We are boosting our diets with nutritional supplements. The vitamin industry is in full blast offering the consumer a wide assortment of high potency vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that our normal diets may be lacking.
When taking these supplements, it’s very important to also keep in mind just how much our body is TRULY ABSORBING and USING. Brands like Centrum, One A Day, Nature’s Own, etc are all claiming to give us our needed doses, but the reality of the matter is that only about 20% (at best) of those vitamins actually get absorbed into our bodies. We are literally throwing away our money, yet believing we are getting our minimum daily requirements (or more). When choosing a vitamin supplement, it’s very important to make sure that the product is pharmaceutical grade. This means that AT LEAST 85% of the nutritional value is being actually absorbed by the body. The sad truth is, none of the over the counter vitamin manufacturers deliver this kind of potency.
When purchasing and consuming energy bars, READ THE LABEL. Many of these bars get their energy from sugar or high carb counts. This causes a spiking in energy and then a crash. A good protein bar that’s designed for people who wish to build muscle as well as get the boost in energy, will find that sugar and carbs are NOT high on the list of ingredients.
The list goes on, when it comes to de-toxing your home. Laundry detergents that are spiked with bleach and phosphates not only hurt the environment, but also break down your clothes, causing you to replace them sooner than you would want to. These chemicals are also irritants which can cause rashes on the skin or even worse reactions with some people.
The list goes on and on. With more and more companies competing for business, the chemical race is in full force, and we, the consumer, are the ones who will ultimately suffer for this. In fact, you may already be seeing the effects of these irritants through increased colds, allergic reactions, fatigue, poor stamina, etc etc.
It’s time to change our shopping and purchasing habits and move to more green and natural alternatives. This is not to be politically correct, but rather it’s becoming more and more a case of wellness and quality of living.
