Favorite_things_2007Thanks to the wonderful Annie at Blogdorf Goodman for gathering a group of bloggers to participate in their top beauty choices for Favorite Things 2007.   Beauty had much excitement for me this year that it's hard to narrow this list down.  Thanks to all my readers who continue to read the blog.  I couldn't do it without you.  My favorite beauty things for 2007 are as follows:

  1. Space NK.  It's not a "thing" but a wonderful apothecary in New York. Space NK has changed the concept of the beauty store.  It's one of the few stores that has a wonderful niche line of beauty products.  Every time I go to this store, it puts a smile on my face.
  2. Barbie Loves MAC Collection.  I had to make myself stop using my Fab blush for fear that I may run out.  I want MAC to make this part of the permanent collection, but I don't think it will.  I still enjoy looking at my Barbie Doll all dolled up with her MAC train case.  Flawless collection.
  3. Lisa Hoffman Seven-Day Skincare Packettes.  I love how well this skincare line travels, which is the main reason it was created.
  4. Kate Somerville ExfoliKate.   What can I say?  This product will always be in my shower.  I love how it makes my skin feel after using it.
  5. Beauty Blender Sponge. I purchased this at the Makeup Show in NY and I still love it's application for foundation and tinted moisturizer.  I should have bought the small travel sponges to come with me wherever I go.  I can't get enough.
  6. Metallic Eye Collection by Bobbi Brown. I think Bobbi shocked all us beauty junkies with the immaculate eye shadow collection.  Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous.
  7. Becca Luminous Tinted Moisturizer in Mink.  I love how this melts evenly on my skin.  I was lucky enough to score a stash when Sephora discontinued them.  Lucky me.
  8. Prescriptives Custom Blend Bronzer.  The perfect match bronzer for me to have perfectly bronzed skin.  I still get giddy using it.
  9. My fragrances. I scored lots of fragrances this year and I love each and every one of them.
  10. Belle Fleur Candles.  The Mayan Tuberose puts me to sleep every night.  It still as luxurious as ever.
  11. Esens Custom Made Fragrance.  This is new, but it's already rocking my world.
  12. Completion of my Level 1 Yoga Teacher Certification.  Yoga as brought so much to my life. My body is strong, my mind is healthy, and my spirit is fulfilled.  Yoga is definitely beautiful.
  13. Bobbi Brown Beauty Breakfast at Bergdorf's.  I am forever grateful for this opportunity to meet Bobbi where it all started, the Beauty Level of BG.  What a fun day.
  14. Dolores as my writing partner and the cuteness of my two new nephews - Josiah and Colin.  These things made my year so special.  I am so blessed to have them in my life.
  15. All my travels.  I have been on planes, trains, and automobiles a lot this year.  It was so much fun, tiring, but fun.

I wish everyone a lovely, happy, and beauty-filled new year and 2008.

Here's a list of my fellow bloggers. Please take time to read what gave them the pretty this year.

In_style_january_2008 I'm having another Katie Holmes moment and this time it is brought to me courtesy of the January 2008 In Style.  The clothes, the makeup, and the great hair.  My hair is getting longer and I love this tousled bob.  The hair looks touchable and you can see movement in it.  Just a few more months and I will be right there.  I can just see it.  I am not looking forward to spending more than  10 minutes on my hair is going to drive me crazy, but I will keep looking at these photos for a little inspiration.

I need Ted Gibson to help me with this endeavor.

It's been an eventful, good year, although not my best year ever. According to VH1, that title went to Rehab. I kind of agree, when my 14 year old cousin found out that his grandfather was in rehab (as in, physical therapy), he was WILDLY impressed because he'd only heard rehab associated with celebrities. Meanwhile, his grandfather slipped and fell, hence the reason for the PT. This is the world in which our children live. Can you even?

I digress. My readership stats have skyrocketed in 2007 thanks to all of YOU! I appreciate the support, advice, hilarious comments, and community that you, the reader, bring to this site. I've made so many friends (both Internet and in real life) as a result of it and have even reconnected with old ones (hi, high school friends!). Thanks to Annie of Blogdorf Goodman for organizing Favorite Things 2007! I've included links to the original posts, click them for more info on each product. Have a fantastic holiday season and I hope 2008 is as fab as all of you are.

    1. Pureology SuperStraight Styling System The BEST shampoo and conditioner I've EVER used. I was heartbroken once my bottles were empty. Not cheap (it's about $28 for shampoo and the same amount for conditioner at DUANE READE), but worth the money. I save it for weekend hair. I haven't tried their other formulas, but I'm sure I'd be impressed.

    2. Origins Faux Glow is my face self-tanner of choice. Never orange, lasts a few days, and doesn't streak. Exfoliate first, then apply. I use it 2-3 times a week.

    3. Frederic Fekkai Defense Protectant Spray The perfect antidote to thirsty, frayed, in-need-of-a-trim ends.

    4. Boscia Salve - I used up this stick in about a month. I only wish it came in a larger tube. Use it and join Lip Balms Addicts (LBA).

    5. Boots Nail Polish Remover Pads - Another thing I'm out of and I'm MIS about it! These fruit-scented pads work wonders to remove even dark polish while moisturizing. But you'll have to cross the "pond" to get them, unfortunately.

    6. Elizabeth Arden Espresso Eye Pencil has become my go-to dark brown eyeliner. Produces rich, highly-pigmented, blendable color. The sponge it comes with at the other end blends harsh lines to perfection. Use it and BE Amanda Tanen.

    7. Freeman Sugar Body Scrub - a cheap thrill that delivers. You'll love the pomegranate-sugar scent, but you'll adore how smooth your skin feels post-use. AND, Freeman never tests on animals. Good stuff all around!

    8. Garnier Skin Renew Regenerating Micro-Polish Kit - It's so rare that I love all pieces of a set, but this polish combo is IT, dolls. Love the exfoliater, love the oil-free moisturizer it comes with. AND, you can buy it at drugstores for a mere $16.99. Check it OUT.

    9.
    T3 360 + Orlando Pita Plump

So much to say about Plump. Orlando himself told me he worked directly with chemists to formulate this product which provides volume without resulting in Sahara-dry roots - something I've NEVER been able to find in either a mousse or a thickening spray. Usually, I just accept my fate as having big but dry/dull hair. Orlando says, why accept dry/dull hair when you can have enormous shiny LUSTROUS hair? Also, he's not a dude to self-promote. Case in point: he could have EASILY created a line of products resulting in as much or more fame than say, Frederic Fekkai (I prefer Orlando's work to his though Frederic is great), or even Vidal Sassoon in the 80s. But he CHOSE not to. He only opened his salon, Orlo, in 2004 to do "something different" (he told me this himself) and when he found a company worth of his collaboration (T3), he STILL only created two products: Boost and Plump. Know what? Despite my arsenal of products, I'd say that these two are the only styling agents one NEEDS. The others are additional if-you-have-time luxuries. Why? One creates volume and the other manages frizz and creates glossiness. What else is there? Now if only I could afford his $800 hair cuts on a regular. Or once. Sigh.

    10.
    tarte rise and shine
    - I don't pose for a photo without this stuff (in Mauve) in tow. One side stains, the other provides plumping, vanilla-scented shine.

    11. Guerlain Kiss Kiss Gloss in Rose Florida produces a raspberry-scented, highly-glossed, pink pout. Use sparingly lest it look slightly bubble gum-esque. A little goes a long way.

    12. MBTs
I don't go ANYWHERE without these. They're expensive as hell (about $250) but mine have already endured nearly 2 years of daily use and are in good shape. My butt and thighs are in MUCH better shape since wearing them for at least an hour per day. Check it out fo shizzle.

    13. Marilyn Brush
This makes SUCH a difference in my lifestyle. I know longer have to WIND my hair around a brush. Winding is so time consuming and ANNOYING. I'm OVER it. It's so 2006 for me. Make it so 2007 for you.

    14. Dior Diorshow Mascara has changed my LIFE. The brush it comes with is probably large enough to style my bangs with, but it lengthens, defines, and blackens my lashes to a tee. I'm hesitant to try any other mascara. Diorshow has truly become my HG one.

    15. T3 Evolution Hair Dryer
I'll just say it: my BEST product of 2007. Cuts your time in half, actually GETS hot enough (but you have the option to cool it down), and emits tourmalines to yield smooth, covetable hair. Like MBTs, I've convinced several of my friends to purchase this dryer despite the hefty price tag. But I've said it before and I'll say it again: heat tools are WORTH the investment. They'll last about 3-4 years and you'll probably want to upgrade before than once T3 comes out with something better. Only they top themselves. Mmkay?

Lorac_best_dressed_palette We are headed home tomorrow and I can only say that I'm not ready to go back yet.  Can I get a few more weeks in Spain.  I was able to find a lot of fragrances that I can't wait to start spritzing  All the Loewe fragrances for men and women are luscious.  I know when I come back I definitely need a lot more luggage for my purchases.  Today, I took a wonderful Hatha Yoga class at the Yoga Center Madrid.  The class was done completely in Spanish and Marta was an excellent instructor.  I was feeling relaxed and rejuvenated as I head up Calle Serrano for more shopping.  This street is similar to Madison Avenue in NY.

A little beauty news for your weekend reading pleasure.

    • Clarins new line of moisturizers, HydraQuench Multi-Climate, which will be released in January, is based on the buyer choosing products based on the climate in which she lives.   If you live in hot, cold, or temperate you base this in conjunction with your skin type.
    • Bond Fragrances is releasing a new Andy Warhol released fragrance called Andy Warhol Union Square.
    • Lorac is expanding to more stores.  The brand will be headed to over 200 Ulta stores in March.  She will also be releasing a "Best Dressed Palette."  The palette release will coincide with the Oscars, which are Feb. 24, and will be available at Sephora the next day.  If this palette is as great as my Showstopper, I will be all over it.  For Spring 2008 there will be a Breakthrough Performance Foundation, Visual Effects Mascara, intended to curl, separate, and lengthen lashes, and On Screen Duo, a compact powder highlighter and cream eyeshadow team.
    • Anastasia Soare, the eyebrow guru, will be releasing new products in January.  Brow Filler, a new brow color applicator that gives custom blending opportunities and Tweezers Anonymous, a package of her products, Brow Stix, stencil kit, brown filler, mini duo brush and Nu Brow.

Have you been introduced to Artistry Essentials yet? The line was created for women whose beauty routine is quick and efficient (that's you, right?). It includes formulas for ALL skins. Of late, I'm loving their Balancing Cleanser. Intended for combination-to-oily skin, it cleanses, clarifies, and mildly exfoliates (sans scrubby particles, its formula is designed to slough off dead skin cells). My sensitive skin is LOVING the lack of oil in its lifestyle (I no longer need to use a separate product to combat T zone shine) and my skin really is clearer.

Buy it here for a pretty economical $14. Discovering this stuff was almost as fantastic as discovering Michael Vartan is a Jew. JJ Abrams, creator of Felicity, Alias, and LOST, really knows how to create the perfect male character, doesn't he? I wonder about him because you know, our characters are based on ourselves. Alias' Michael Vaughn embodies every delish characteristic of my all time fave, LOST's Jack Shephard. The only downfall is that neither of these people exist in real life.

Happy New to you! I'm off this Sunday to ring in 2008 at my friend Chopin's Poconos house. I'll be back pre-2008 with my annual Favorite Things list, lest you worry. Oh, AND. Get excited for Smooth Operator Week! Yes, friends, it's true. I'll be discussing my favorite shave gels, creams and hair removal paraphernalia. One adjective that will not describe 2008 is hirsute. Shaving is totally boring, but having fun tools with which to do the job makes it all the more appealing, n'est-ce pas?

P.S. I saw a sneak preview of 27 Dresses last night but it was, unfortunately, inconsistently good. Do see it for the Bennie and the Jets scene, though. I'd like to personally thank the writer responsible for that scene and calling us out collectively on not knowing the words to that song. Reason number two to see it is Ed Burns. Does he not have the most PHENOMENAL voice? I'd hire him to read me the phonebook. Just saying.

I'm off to Miami... my friend is co-hosting a party with CHASE CRAWFORD (gasp!) and I'm going along for the sweltering sun (with my SPF 30, but of course)!

    How lucky am I?!

If you're in Miami, make your way over to Cameo for NYE... that's where we'll be!
I'll be the one gawking at Chase... (with the perfectly made-up face... a beauty whore has gotta show off for the New Year!).

TO ALL MY FELLOW BEAUTY WHORES...

HAVE A HAPPY, SAFE, AND BEAUTY-FULL NEW YEAR!

    SEE YOU IN 2008!

Hope you all had a delightful holiday! In case you were "surprised" with a gift from someone whom you were NOT expecting to exchange with (as I was), this delightful holiday set of Body Shop body butters is a delightful New Years gift for $25. The Festive and Fabulous Body Butter Gift Set includes seasonal body butters in Cranberry, Rich Plum, and Vanilla Spice -- all blended to create intense and creamy body moisturizers. Each of the three is a mini version of the real thing. Perfect for packing for the resort vacas I hope you're planning.

My mini-break in PA was fantastic. I caught up on half of season 2 of Alias, which I adore. I know I'm so 2003, but I'm so into the Sydney Bristow / Michael Vartan relash. I ate way too much delish food and even fit in a trip to the dentist!
